With significant advancement in technology businesses have excelled appreciably. One of these advancements that we are talking about is thermal printing. This is money and time saver for all businesses, which need to print sales or transaction receipts. Customers simply love the speed at which the receipts get printed. In this blog, we want to discuss whether thermal printing is really a blessing. Let’s start with talking in detail about what thermal printing is.
Thermal paper and printing is an ink-less way to print receipts at shops, grocery stores, and banks. It works on principle of heating technology where the receipt is printed through a heating coil onto the paper. The paper made for this has a coating that allows characters to be printed on it without the need of ink or ribbon like inkjet or dot matrix printers and is a much faster process. This coating is that of Bisphenol A, often known as BPA, which is a chemical found in hard plastics and the coatings of food and drink’s cans. BPA is the heat activated coated material in thermal paper which helps in printing. This chemical is extremely harmful for human body. Just to state a few toxic effects of BPA:
- Breast cancer and prostate cancer
- Erratic Hearts and many types of cardiovascular diseases like arrhythmia
- Malformation of teeth and bones
- Hormone imbalance and causes male reproductive dysfunction
- Vitamin D deficiency
Researchers have observed that many lotions and oils including hand sanitizers have additives that enhance the skin absorption of BPA. Hence, it is advised to all receipt handlers to wear gloves while handling receipts. Even better option is to ask for e-receipts and save ourselves and the environment.
And it may seem like a science fiction movie, but the damage can actually linger for generations. With facts like these, it’s clear we need to avoid this chemical like plague and work to get it off the market.
